Noosa2K’Gari 4WD Hire Vehicles are a great way to explore Hervey bay, one of Queensland’s most sought after holiday destinations which is located approximately three and half hours drive north of Brisbane or two and half hours drive north of the Sunshine Coast. With a 4WD, Hervey Bay provides a great place to drive the area and explore.
Just 20 minutes south of Hervey bay is River Head, which is the department point for the Fraser Venture Barge and the Kingfisher Barge to take you across to Fraser Island.
Staying on the mainland, you can travel about an hour north of Hervey Bay to Burrum Point, to a great fishing, boating and camping spot.
Accessable only by 4wd vehicle, this camp ground is still close to civilisation yet far enough out of the way to feel remote.
The sandy camping area is just a short walk from the beach at Burrum Point, and Burrum River is also close by.
This is a perfect fishing trip with opportunities to stop and fish in a number of locations around the area including the Burrum River inlet along the road.
As the off-roading comes to completion you will come out into a small town at Walkers Point.
It is a short trip north to Woodgate on bitumen before you find yourself back off road and onto the beach.
The beach is usually very hard and compacted having the high tide reach the tree-line.
It is best to travel the beach on an outgoing tide so as to gain the most beach area for driving.
Watch out for the millions of soldier crabs that populate the beaches around the point.
An opportunity for yabby pumping and bait gathering is just past the point with plenty of yabbies available on the sandy mud flats exposed on an outgoing tide.
